The final coaching query comes from someone I’ll call Lonnie. After getting stuck on a big project, Lonnie worked hard finding a way forward, including reaching out to mentors and setting up a dedicated area for the project with all the required resources already assembled.
Sound familiar? If you’re like me, you can probably predict the outcome based on experience. The dedicated work area work-around improves things for a bit, after which it becomes a place to avoid—because it reminds us of yet another unsuccessful attempt.
To help Lonnie’s efforts pay off, I break down the tensions that can accidentally get created between the way we think about ourselves and the way we define some task we can’t seem to complete. When we’ve wound up identifying the thing on our plate as fundamentally not us, it’s extraordinarily hard to make progress, despite our often ingenious work-arounds.
Watch the video to find out exactly how we can inadvertently set up this kind of conflict, why it causes problems, and how to leave it behind.
Finally: many thanks to everyone who submitted coaching requests, whether or not I was able to respond in this round! I appreciated the chance to coach you from afar, and all the DMs and emails I’ve received. I’ll be releasing another series of videos later in the spring.
